Narrating the adventures of individual persons and previous folks and civilizations, Quran notes events that as a general laws they can be recurred throughout the centuries provided that theirs appropriate circumstances exist. One of these divine custom and practices is the consigning to punishment (istedraj) which is repeated in quranic verses. This practice realizes both in personal and social realm. This article is seeking to study semantic aspect of istedraj in Quran and the doctrines and opinions of Muslim scholars about conditions and goals of the practice of istedraj.
